Formulation

Each vial contains:

Ampicillin (as sodium) ………. 500 mg

Ampicillin (as sodium) ………. 250 mg

Ampicillin (as sodium) ………. 1 gram

Indication

Infections due to susceptible organisms, including biliary-tract infections, bronchitis, endocarditis, epiglottitis, gastroenteritis (including E. coli enteritis, salmonella enteritis and shigellosis), gonorrhea, listeriosis, bacterial meningitis, otitis media, peritonitis, pneumonia, septicemia, typhoid and paratyphoid fever, and urinary tract infections.

Dosage

Respiratory tract and soft tissues infections Patient ≥40 kg 250-500 mg IM/IV every 6 hours, <40 kg 25-50 mg/kg every 6-8 hours in equally divided doses. Gonorrhea Adult 500 mg IM/IV every 8-12 hours in 2 doses, repeated if necessary. Adult and children bacterial meningitis 150-300 mg/kg every 3-4 hours in equally divided doses. Septicemia 150-200 mg/kg. Initially administer IV for at least 3 days and continue IM every 3-4 hours.
