Calyxin (Citicoline) is a psychostimulant/ nootropic drug. It increases the production of neurotransmitters and cellular building blocks. Besides acetylcholine,it also boosts norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain. It can enhance brain blood flow and stimulate mitochondria to produce more energy.
Calyxin (Citicoline) is used to increase blood flow and oxygen consumption in the brain and has been given in the treatment of cerebrovascular disorder (including ischaemic stroke), parkinsonism and head injury. It is given to patients with cognitive dysfunction due to degenerative (i.e., Alzheimer’s disease) and cerebrovascular disease.
